BEAVER CREEK, Colo. -- Lindsey Vonn squeezed in a little freeskiing on Thanksgiving morning, a step in the right direction for a return to racing after reinjuring her right knee in a recent training crash. The reigning Olympic downhill champion posted on her Facebook page Thursday: "First day back on snow since my crash and it was awesome!" She also attached a picture of herself -- grinning -- on an empty slope in Vail. Although shes skipping the races in Beaver Creek this weekend, the 29-year-old Vonn hasnt ruled out a return to competition in Lake Louise, Alberta, next week. Good friend and rival Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany told The Associated Press on Thursday after a downhill training run that the two are planning to travel together to Lake Louise on Monday. "Shes really positive," said Hoefl-Riesch, who spent some time with Vonn earlier in the week. "Im looking forward to seeing her back on skis and finally back racing. "If she feels well and has no pain and no unstable feeling, I think shes strong enough in her head to ski 100 per cent." Vonn had a training mishap in Copper Mountain nine days ago and partially tore a reconstructed ligament in her right knee. At the time on Facebook, she called it a "temporary setback" and that "nothing will keep me from picking myself back up and continuing to fight for my dreams." The Sochi Olympics are in February. Vonn hasnt raced since tearing ligaments in her right knee during a high-speed accident at the world championships in February. She was well ahead of schedule for a World Cup return -- with her first competition scheduled to be this weekend in Beaver Creek -- before her crash at the U.S. speed centre in Copper. Just the news that Vonn was back on skis was greeted as a good sign for teammate Leanne Smith. "Im psyched for her," Smith said. "I just want her to feel comfortable and ready to get back on it. ... I know shes working (hard) and thats all that matters. I hope the progression is easy for her and that her confidence is right back again." In an interview with NBCs "Today" show on Wednesday, Vonn said that her recent crash was caused when she caught an edge, flipped over her skis and "went head-first into the fence." She said the knee wasnt the reason for the spill and that her protective brace saved her from possibly more damage. "Unfortunately, it was really bad timing for me," Vonn said. "Im still confident. I still feel like I have a lot left to achieve this season. ... I still have time before Sochi." In her Facebook post Thursday, Vonn didnt indicate how aggressively she skied or how long she was on the hill. She did thank Vail for opening the lifts early and wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving. "Im very thankful for many things this year (family, loved ones, great fans) but at this moment Im happy to be on the mountain doing what I love -- skiing!!" she posted. Vonn needs just three more wins to match Austrian great Annemarie Moser-Proells record of 62 World Cup race victories. Wholesale Penguins Jerseys . Curtis Davies and Robert Koren secured the victory with goals inside 35 minutes of the fifth-round replay against the second-tier side. And all things considered, the first 40 games have offered a little bit of everything from a hockey club that faced many questions in its first year under new management, with a new head coach and with a number of new faces in the lineup. However, with a recent dip in scoring, it seems some of the same old questions persist and several new ones have been raised after a somewhat troubling homestand. Penguins Jerseys 2020 . Cammalleri scored two goals, Corban Knight netted the winner in a shootout, and the Flames erased a two-goal deficit in the third period to beat the Stars 4-3 on Friday night.NAPA, Calif. - Martin Laird wasnt sure what to expect out of his game after a seven-week break. He hasnt found too much wrong after two rounds of the Frys.com Open.Laird bounced back from his first bogey of the new PGA Tour season by running off four straight birdies around the turn. One last birdie on the par-5 18th at Silverado gave him a second straight 5-under 67 and a one-shot lead over Bae Sang-moon among the early starters Friday. The Ryder Cup trio of Hunter Mahan, Matt Kuchar and Jimmy Walker played in the afternoon. Lee Westwood of England shot a 69 to at least avoid missing the cut, though he was eight shots behindLaird was at 10-under 134.He made a sloppy bogey on the sixth hole with a poor tee shot into the bunker, hitting into another bunker some 80 feet from the flag and missing an 8-foot putt. He had to scramble for par on the next hole, and then he took off. After a pair of short birdie putts, Laird rolled in a birdie from 20 feet on No. 10, and then made another birdie putt from the same range up the ridge toward a tucked pin on the par-3 11th.Bae made all three of his birdies on the par 5s and was at 135.Brooks Koepka, an impressive figure with his power, couldnt take advantage on the par 5s and had to settle for a 70. He was four shots behind Laird going into the weekend. Koepka was the 54-hole lead at the Frys.com Open a year ago, which set the tone foor him to earn his PGA Tour card.dddddddddddd Koepka played last year on the European Tour.Laird had more time off than he wanted. A three-time winner on the PGA Tour, he felt his game slipping away when he went back to swing coach Mark McCann and started putting the pieces back together. It was too late to salvage his season. Laird wound up at No. 127 in the FedEx Cup standings a€” missing by 13 points a€” and had a month off. There also were two open weeks around the Ryder Cup in his native Scotland. You never know how youre going to play after seven weeks off like I had, Laird said. Just to come out and put back-to-back 67s up and play very solid a€” very solid 67s a€” Im extremely happy. When he met with McCann during his break to keep working on his game, the swing was in such good shape that they spent the majority of time working on his short game. That much was evident when he missed the green on the par-3 seventh hole and hit a tricky pitch to 6 feet for par, and on the 18th with a wedge from the first cut that spun back a few feet from the cup.Ive definitely seen it this week, Laird said of the short-game work. Im putting good. My wedge game was pretty bad last year, and we really worked on that. My shot on the last ... its nice when you do the hard work and then you hit a wedge shot on the last hole to tap-in range almost. It makes it worthwhile. ' ' '
