ATLANTA -- The New York Yankees bolstered their rotation on Sunday by acquiring veteran right-hander Brandon McCarthy from Arizona. Cheap Penguins Jerseys . The Diamondbacks also are sending New York cash in Sundays deal for left-hander Vidal Nuno. The trade was announced by the Yankees. The move comes after Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia had a setback with a degenerative cartilage problem in his right knee. New York was unable to work out a trade this week for the Cubs Jeff Samardzija, who instead was dealt to Oakland. McCarthy, who turns 31 on Monday, was 3-10 with a 5.01 ERA with Arizona this season. In nine seasons with the White Sox, Rangers, As and Diamondbacks, McCarthy is 45-60 with a 4.21 ERA. McCarthy said he was informed of the deal after he reported for Sundays game against the Braves. He will leave the last-place Diamondbacks and join a playoff race with New York. "Its something Im really excited about," McCarthy said. McCarthy said he is sad to be leaving Arizona, but added the move to New York is special. "Its still the Yankees, no matter what," McCarthy said. "If you dont know baseball, you know the Yankees." McCarthy planned to fly from Atlanta to meet the Yankees in Cleveland, where they open a series on Monday. Nuno, 26, was 2-5 with a 5.42 ERA in 17 games, including 14 starts, with the Yankees. Nuno was hurt by allowing 15 homers -- including 13 at home -- in 78 innings this season. McCarthy, a groundball pitcher, may be better suited for Yankee Stadium. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman sought an upgrade to the rotation for weeks. Sabathia is out indefinitely and the Yankees also lost Ivan Nova to Tommy John surgery. The Diamondbacks have made two trades in as many days. On Saturday, Arizona acquired two minor leaguers, outfielder Zach Borenstein and right-hander Joey Krehbiel, from the Los Angeles Angels for left-hander Joe Thatcher and outfielder Tony Campana. More moves may be coming for Arizona. "Were going to start retooling, it looks like," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said Sunday. Gibson called the approach "a different mindset." Gibson said Nuno will make his debut with Arizona on Tuesday against Miami. Nuno had been scheduled to start for the Yankees on Monday, and Gibson said he wanted to give the young left-hander an extra day to adjust to his new team. Custom Pittsburgh Penguins Jerseys . With injuries, lineup changes and other roster moves affecting playing time, it is important to keep your fantasy lineup up-to-date. Nmds Norge . Here are some under-the-radar players to take a look at to fill in the final spots on your team, as well as some who no longer warrant ownership. Take a look at… Tristan Thompson (PF/C - Cle) – 28.9% owned: With starting centre Anderson Varejao out for the season after tearing his Achilles, the job now belongs to Thompson. The former fourth-overall pick had shown flashes of his double-double potential coming off of the bench earlier in the season but remained inconsistent in that role. In his two starts since Varejao went down, Thompson has played heavy minutes and missed a second double-double by one point. Cleveland is thin up front, and while the team has been rumoured to be in the market for a big man, nothing has come to fruition on that front. Until something happens, Thompson is the guy to fill in. Cory Joseph (PG - SA) – 11.2% owned: While starting point guard Tony Parkers injury seems to be not as serious as originally thought, Joseph is worth a look until Parker returns. He wont “wow” owners in any category but he does enough across the stat sheet to be able to help a fantasy team. Even when Parker comes back, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is famous for resting his aging core of star players and Joseph has filled in admirably throughout the season in that role so far as well. Despite the season debut of Patty Mills on Sunday, the starters job is Josephs in Parkers absence. Jarrett Jack (PG - Bkn) – 25.3% owned: Originally just a spot starter while Deron Williams was nursing an injury, Jack started the last two games for the Nets with Williams coming off the bench. It remains to be seen if this lineup change will continue, but one should assume that Williams is likely to regain his starting spot sooner rather than later. Regardless, in four games, Jack has averaged 20.3 points, 6.5 assists, 1.8 steals and a 57% field goal percentage. Those numbers arent sustainable, but it is worth riding Jack while he remains hot. In addition, there are always worries about Williams health and the constant trade rumours surrounding him, all of which can only be positives for Jacks owners. Alex Len (C - Phx) – 8.9% owned: It could just be coincidence, but the Suns have gone on a six-game winning streak one game after Len was inserted into the starting lineup over Miles Plumlee. As a starter, he has only averaged 9.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and still isnt playing starters minutes, but his field goal percentage (56.5%) and blocks (2.7 per game) during that span that should keep owners satisfied. If Len can keep improving throughout the season, those looking for a big man should keep their eye on how this situation plays out. Maybe say goodbye to… Omer Asik (C – NO) – 43% owned: His 14-point, 17-rebound, five-block performance on opening night is now a distant memory for Asik owners. Once a guarantee for at least double-digit rebounds each night, Asik has failed to deliver that in six of his last eight games and continues to see his minutes decrease. The Pelicans seem to have gone for a pairing of Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson as the teams primary two big men throughout the game. Asik was never going to provide owners with more than rebounds and blocks, and there are some better options out there right now. Larry Sanders (PF/C - Mil) – 25.3% owned: How the Fantasy mighty have fallen. Sanders seems to have been cursed ever since signing a four-year, $44 million extension with Milwaukee last season. Whether dealing with injuries or suspension, Sanders struggled all of last season to put all of his 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks back together and hasnt found it yet this season either. Those hoping for a bounce-back year from Sanders should move on, as there are no nightly guarantees of what kind of stat line he will produce. He has also failed to register a double-double all season. Marreese Speights (PF/C – GSW) – 18.3% owned: His value took a hit with the return of David Lee, and it will continue to fall in January when Andrew Bogut returns. Speights still holds some worth for now as Lee works his way back into game shape and Festus Ezeli is sidelined with an ankle injury, however owners should be prepared to drop Speights in the next few weeks. Terrence Jones (PF - Hou) – 23.5% owned: He is still being listed as out indefinitely by the Rockets following a nerve injury in his leg, and despite recently running on a treadmill, there doesnt seem to be a reliable timetable for his return. Donatas Motiejunas filled in during that time and did so quite well, but now that the Rockets have Josh Smith, both of their values take a hit. Jones injury has gone beyond the “wait and see” approach and is not worth stashing until more news becomes available. Adidas Nmd Salg . Matt Bellerive scored both goals for the Blazers (12-43-5), who are 1-9-0 in their last 10 outings.DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson announced Thursday that his office has filed a criminal complaint to charge Aaron Hernandez with assault and battery after a jailhouse fight. The fight, which took place Feb. 24, was between Hernandez and another inmate while the two were supposed to be in isolation. According to Hodgson the other inmate will not face any charges. "I can just tell you that there was, you know, an altercation that took place betweeen Mr. Nmd_r2 Sko Norge. Hernandez and another inmate. FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Nik Stauskas Jersey . - The reviews came quickly and unanimously.Bradys Better! the crowd chanted midway through the fourth quarter.I stunk, Peyton Manning said minutes after struggling through the 16th meeting between two of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. All that was true Sunday in the meeting between the AFCs two top teams.Tom Brady outplayed Manning and the New England Patriots won 43-21 for their fifth straight victory, ending the Denver Broncos winning streak at four. The lopsided loss by the favoured Broncos was a surprise. Another Brady victory over Manning in Foxborough wasnt.Manning is 0-4 at New England over the past five seasons. The Patriots have won their past 14 home games, the longest current streak in the NFL, and 34 in a row over AFC teams. The crowd didnt play, Broncos defensive tackle Terrance Knighton said. It is 11-on-11 and their 11 played better.Make that 22.The Patriots (7-2) were better on offence, especially when converting on third and fourth downs. And they were better on defence, holding the Broncos (6-2) to their second lowest points total of the season. We knew if we executed well how the game would turn out, so we werent surprised, New England defensive tackle Vince Wilfork said. It wasnt about Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. It was about making sure we knew what were doing.Brady threw for 333 yards, four touchdowns and his first interception in five games. Manning piled up 438 yards passing, most after the Broncos trailed 27-7 at halftime, with two touchdown passes and two interceptions. The quarterback stinks, usually youre not going to win many games, Manning said. I dont make any excuses.Brady is 11-5 against Manning with one of those losses coming last season in the AFC title game.He has always set a real high bar for how to play and I have tried to do the same through my efforts with my team, Brady said about Manning. The only thing I really care about is the respect from my team, going out there and trying to earn it. Some more highlights of the Patriots victory:THE OTHER MATCHUP: Just as Brady outplayed Manning, New Englands Rob Gronkowski beat Denvers Julius Thomas in a matchup of two of the NFLs best tight ends. Gronkowski had nine catches for 105 yards and a 1-yard touchdown, while Thomas finished with two receptions for 33 yards, with an 18-yard score.Gronkowski made a spectacular one-handed grab early in the fourth quarter and was tackled at the 1.Incredible, Brady said. That was one of the best catches Ive ever seen.Thomas touchdown cut the lead to 27-14 early in the third quarter before the Patriots scored 10 points in a 17-second span on Stephen Gostkowskis 45-yard field goal and Bradys 10-yard scoring pass to Brandon LaFell.EDELMAN DOES IT ALL: Julian Edelman scored on a 5-yard pass from Brady, returned a punt 84 yards for another touchdown and almost got a third in the final minute of the third quarter. But the on-field ruling that he had scored on a 5-yard pass was overturned when replay showed the ball hit the ground before he had possession. Brady threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Shane Vereen two plays later for a 27-7 lead.Julian did what Julian does, special teams captain Matthew Slater said.It was the fourth punt return for a touchdown of Edelmans career, breaking a tie for the team record with Troy Brown and Irving Fryar.DENVERS Defence: Denvers improved defence this season hardly looked like it. Von Miller began the day tied for second in the NFL with nine sacks, but his six-game streak with at least one ended. DeMarcus Ware was the only Bronco to sack Brady, who kept getting rid of the ball quickly.Brady, man, on third and long he killed us, Denver cornerback Chris Harris Jr. said. They just did a lot of hurry-up (offence) and our communication wasnt like it usually is.BRADYS MILESTONES: Brady spent the day passing one great quarterback after another. He moved into fifth place past current Denver general manager John Elway with 51,541 yards passing and moved ahead of Dan Marino with 22 games with at least four touchdown passes. He also tied Brett Favre with 62 games with 300 or more yards passing and got his 155th win in his 200th start, the most victories by a quarterback in that many starts.COMING UP: The Patriots have a bye before visiting Indianapolis in a Sunday night game. Theyre 1-2 in the games after the bye in the past three seasons. The Broncos face a soft landing after the loss to New England when they visit the Oakland Raiders (0-8) in the second of three straight road games.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Georgios Papagiannis Blazers Jersey . The Union looked to have grabbed a big win in the 88th minute when Amobi Okugo finally put the hosts in front. But a terrible giveaway by Union goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi handed Earnshaw the equalizer in the second minute of stoppage time, keeping the Union two points back of fifth-place Red Bull New York for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Custom Portland Trail Blazers Jerseys . Radulov scored the lone goal in the shootout, and the Predators edged the Minnesota Wild 2-1 on Tuesday night to reach 100 points for the second time in three seasons and fourth in seven. https://www.blazerslockerroom.com/Nassir-Little-City-Edition-Jersey/ . While Chelsea stayed two points behind leader Arsenal courtesy of Etoos hat trick, seventh-place United slipped 14 points from the summit this weekend. And the gap from the Champions League places is growing as well, with Liverpool six points ahead in fourth.Wayne Simmonds and Steve Mason came up big with the Flyers season on the line and forced a Game Seven. Scott Cullen has notes on Simmonds, Mason, Lundqvist, Giroux, Hagelin and more. LETS GO SEVEN Wayne Simmonds scored a hat trick and Steve Mason stopped 34 of 36 New York Rangers shots as the Philadelphia Flyers won 5-2 in Game Six, forcing a Game Seven to decide the series Wednesday night. Simmonds, who scored a career-high 29 goals and 60 points during the regular season, erupted for three goals, all from within a few feet of the net. Officially, Simmonds three goals traveled a total of 20 feet, but thats not unusual -- among players with at least 20 goals, Simmonds average shooting distance of 26.0 feet during the regular season ranked 15th, so he makes his bones as a presence in front of the net. In addition, or at least underlying his three-goal performance, Simmonds generated 11 shot attempts in only 12:50 of ice time. While Simmonds was cleaning up the scraps around the Rangers net, Mason was taking care of business in the Philadelphia net, making quite a few high-quality saves to preserve the Flyers lead, even though the Rangers carried a lot of the play (and before score effects kicked in). Mason has stopped 92 of 98 shots that hes faced (.939 SV%) since joining the series in Game Three. Thats better than usual from Mason, who has a career save percentage of .907 and a .920 mark in 68 games with the Flyers, but Philadelphia needs him to continue at that level for one more game to get through this series. Flyers D Erik Gustafsson, replacing Hal Gill (who was replacing Nicklas Grossman) in the lineup, scored a goal on a breakaway coming out of thhe penalty box and had solid relative possession numbers. Zach Collins Blazers Jersey. For the Blueshirts, Henrik Lundqvist comes with the much higher pedigree, but after allowing four goals on 23 shots in Game Six (before getting pulled in favour of Cam Talbot), his save percentage in the series has dipped to .892 (132 saves on 148 shots). Lundqvist has a .920 career save percentage in both the regular season and playoffs, over a span of 647 games. That track record ranks him among the elite puckstoppers in the league, but its imperative for the Rangers that Lundqvist bounce back in Game Seven. Its not just Lundqvist that needs to be better, though. The Rangers power play is in a 0-for-20 streak since Benoit Pouliots goal in the first period of Game Two. While RW Rick Nash has yet to score a goal in the series, hes put 25 shots on goal and has the best possession numbers for the Rangers in the series. Flyers C Claude Giroux contributed a goal and two assists to the cause, his goal coming into an empty net with 4:11 remaining in the third period, giving him six points through six games. Rangers LW Carl Hagelin scored a goal, but created many chances in Game Six, registering nine shot attempts in 14:50 of ice time and rookie J.T. Miller had an assist for the second straight game since being inserted into the lineup. No team has won back-to-back games in this series, so perhaps that favours the Rangers going into Game Seven, though owning the possession battle would be more relevant. A knee to the thigh might have stung him the most, but his sixth straight double-double made up for the brief burst of pain.SAN JOSE, Calif. - Even on a night when the play was hampered by choppy ice, the puck still seems to find Joe Pavelski and he keeps finding the net. Pavelski scored twice to move into a tie for the second most goals in the NHL this season and help the San Jose Sharks beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 Monday night. "It feels how you should play the game all the time, to be honest," Pavelski said. "Its the way you picture it. Ive just visualized this a few times, so it shouldnt be anything new." Pavelski scored on a deflection in the first period and on the power play in the second to give him five goals in his past two games and 18 in the past 20 to tie Anaheims Corey Perry with 27 on the season. Washingtons Alex Ovechkin leads the league with 35. "Its fun to watch," teammate Tommy Wingels said. "They go in a whole different variety of ways as you saw tonight. When youre hot, youre hot. Hell certainly take it and as a team well take it as well." Wingels also scored and Antti Niemi made 21 saves for the Sharks, who returned home from a perfect three-game road trip with a win over struggling Calgary to open a pre-Olympic stretch of eight games out of 10 at home. Jiri Hudler and Kevin Westgarth scored for the Flames, who have lost four straight games and 11 of 13. Karri Ramo made 24 saves. "Were disappointed in the loss, but you cant fault the effort," forward Matt Stajan said. "We had our chances. If we continue to work like that well give ourselves a chance no doubt about it." Pavelski followed up his first career hat trick on Saturday in Tampa Bay with his third multi-goal game in his past six as he thrives on a line with Joe Thornton and Brent Burns. Pavelski is four goals shy of matching his career high of 31 set two seasons ago. He broke a tie late in the second period after Stajan was sent off for interfering with Eriah Hayes on the only penalty of the game. After a broken play at the blue line, Jason Demers kept the puck in the offensive zone and passed to Thornton, who was all alone on the opposite side of the ice. Thoornton fired a cross-ice pass to Pavelski, who was alone near the front of the net and deflected the pass past Ramo to give the Sharks a 3-2 lead. Cheap White Sox Jerseys. The puck seems to hit him right now and go in." Both teams scored twice during the first period with help from shaky goaltending from Niemi and Ramo. The four goals came on 18 shots and included three in a span of 1:12 midway through the period. The Flames started the scoring when Hudler beat Brad Stuart in the corner and then beat Niemi with a backhand from in front of the net for his 13th goal. The Sharks responded with two goals in a 21-second span with Pavelski tipping Justin Brauns point shot for the first and Wingels beating Ramo with a bad angle shot from near the boards to snap a 15-game goalless stretch. Less than a minute later, Niemi allowed a big rebound in the slot on a shot by Brian McGrattan and Westgarth got to the rebound ahead of Matt Irwin for his first goal in 23 games this season. Westgarth was happy to contribute two days after he was part of the game-opening line brawl against Vancouver that led to coach Bob Hartley getting fined $25,000 earlier in the day. "I dont know what is being said about me and I dont care," Westgarth said. "I know the guys in this room respect me and thats all that matters. I figured something would be happening. You dont want to have a line brawl like that very often." This game had just one minor penalty compared to the 204 combined minutes of penalties between the Canucks and Flames on Saturday. NOTES: With the assist on Pavelskis second goal, Thornton moved past Bobby Hull for 48th on the career scoring list with 1,171 points. ... Flames F Paul Byron left the game in the second period with a lower-body injury. ... The Winnipeg Goldeyes desperately needed a victory and Chris Salamida delivered. Louis Williams Clippers Jersey . The Goldeyes veteran left-handed starter pitched his league-leading fourth complete game, as the Fish put a halt to a three-game losing streak and beat the Wichita Wingnuts 5-1 in front of 5,911 on Sunday afternoon at Shaw Park. Salamidas line was sensational: nine complete innings, one run, five hits, eight strikeouts and three walks. "You play every game to win," said Salamida when asked if there was any extra pressure on him after the Goldeyes had lost the first three games of this four-game series to Wichita. "As a team, we just want to win every game, but now we have to take the momentum weve built with this win into the series against St. Paul." With the win, the Goldeyes improved to 48-32 and, after Sioux City beat St. Paul 9-7, the Fish now lead the second-place Saints (44-34) by three games. The Goldeyes and Saints will meet in a three-game series this week, beginning Tuesday night at Shaw Park. The Goldeyes opened the scoring in the first inning as Brock Bond led off with a walk, went to second on a single by Jake Blackwood and scored on a single by Tyler Kuhn. After Wichita tied it in the top of the third, the Goldeyes answered in the bottom of the inning, as Blackwood beat out an infield hit, Casey Haerther beat out an infield hit and Blackwood scored -- what turned out to be the winning run -- on a single by Reggie Abercrombie. In the sixth, with Abercrombie on second, the Goldeyes put the game away. Catcher Luis Alen hit a belt-high fastball from Wichita starter Tim Brown over the left-center field wall for his fifth home run of the season and with that one swing of the bat, the Goldeyes had a 4-1 lead. They added a fifth run in the seventh, as Bond beat out an infield hit, went to second on a single by Blackwood, went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kuhn and scored on a sacrifice fly by Haerther. The rest of the work was done by Salamida and his defense. "I always try to minimize my pitches," Salamida said. "Im a pitch to contact guy who has a great defense behind him. They were outstanding behind me today. I dont think weve made an error in a long time. The defense was just great again for me today."Salamida (6-3, 3.21 ERA) got the victory, while Brown (8-4, 3.40 ERA) took the loss. Landry Shamet Clippers Jersey . The 41-year-old Northern Irishman has proved a perfect fit at Liverpool since taking over from Kenny Dalglish in the summer of 2012 and steered the team to an unexpected title challenge in the Premier League last season. Reigning champion Rafael Nadal pulled out of the U.S. Open because of an injury for the second time in three years Monday, leaving Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer as the men to beat at the years last Grand Slam tournament. Nadal announced his withdrawal, blamed on a bad right wrist, one week before play begins at Flushing Meadows. "I am sure you understand that it is a very tough moment for me since it is a tournament I love and where I have great memories from fans, the night matches, so many things," a posting on Nadals Facebook page read. "Not much more I can do right now, other than accept the situation and, as always in my case, work hard in order to be able to compete at the highest level once I am back." The second-ranked Nadal plays left-handed, but he uses a two-handed backhand. The 14-time major champion was hurt July 29 while practicing on his home island of Mallorca ahead of the North American hard-court circuit. The next day, Nadal announced he needed to wear a cast on his wrist for two to three weeks and would be sitting out tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati. The 28-year-old Spaniard also said at that time he expected to return for the U.S. Open. Instead, hes the fourth man in the Open era, which began in 1968, to decline to try to defend his U.S. Open title. The others were Ken Rosewall in 1971, Pete Sampras in 2003 and Juan Martin del Potro in 2010. Del Potro also is out of this years U.S. Open after wrist surgery in March. Nadal is 44-8 with four titles in 2014, including his record ninth French Open trophy in June. He has not competed since losing in the fourth round of Wimbledon on July 1. With Nadal sidelined, five-time U.S. Open champion Federeer joins Djokovic as a favourite in New York -- even if there are questions about them. Patrick Beverley Jersey. Federer turned 33 this month, and its been more than two years since he won one of his record 17 Grand Slam titles. But he is coming off a runner-up finish at Wimbledon last month and a hard-court title at the Cincinnati Masters on Sunday. After beating David Ferrer 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 on Sunday, Federer declared: "My games exactly where I want it to be." Djokovic won Wimbledon to take the No. 1 ranking from Nadal, but had a rough time on hard courts, losing his second match in both Toronto and Cincinnati. Still, Djokovic will be seeded No. 1 at the U.S. Open, and the third-ranked Federer is expected to rise one seeding spot to No. 2, so they could meet only in the final. The draw is Thursday. Federer reached six consecutive finals at Flushing Meadows from 2004-09, but hasnt been that far since, losing in the semifinals in 2010 and 2011, the quarterfinals in 2012, and the fourth round a year ago, when he was dealing with a bothersome back. Nadal won his second U.S. Open championship in 2013, part of a run of reaching the final in each of his last three appearances. He beat Djokovic to win the titles in 2010 and last year, and lost to Djokovic in 2011. The one question about Nadal over the years has been his durability, on account of a hard-charging, play-each-point-as-if-its-your-last style. He did not enter the U.S. Open in 2012, part of an extended absence because of a problem with his left knee. And this will be the second time Nadal chose to not attempt a defence of a major title: A year after winning Wimbledon in 2008, he missed that tournament with knee tendinitis. ' ' '

OAKLAND, Calif. Evan Turner Jersey . -- Coco Crisp drove in Kyle Blanks with a two-out single in the eighth inning and the Oakland Athletics beat the Boston Red Sox 4-3 on Friday night. Josh Donaldson hit a three-run home run, his first in two weeks, to help the As extend their winning streak to four games. Oakland also owns the best record in the majors. Boston reliever Andrew Miller (2-5) hit Blanks and Alberto Callaspo with back-to-back pitches with one out in the eighth. After Nick Punto struck out looking, Crisp lined a 2-2 pitch to right and Blanks easily scored ahead of the throw from Brock Holt. Sean Doolittle pitched the ninth for his 10th save. The As closer also extended his scoreless streak to 23 1/3 innings, the longest active mark in the AL. Oakland only managed two hits off Boston starter Felix Doubront and had stranded eight runners before Crisp delivered the game-winner. Fernando Abad (2-2) pitched one inning for the win. The As have won the first two of this series after dropping two of three to the Red Sox at Fenway Park last month. Crisp entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh and struck out against reliever Burke Badenhop. Both teams squandered multiple scoring opportunities. The Red Sox left two on in the fourth and failed to score after loading the bases in the fifth. The As had two on in the third, fourth and seventh but stranded them each time. Oakland starter Brad Mills struck out the side in the first before Boston loaded the bases with one out in the second following an error by Oakland second baseman Punto. Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a two-run single to drive in Mike Napoli and Jonny Gomes. It could have been worse. As centre fielder Craig Gentry made a diving catch on Holts sinking liner, then threw to second to double off Stephen Drew. Boston tied it on David Ortizs RBI single in the third. Mills, acquired in a trade from Milwaukee earlier in the week, had not pitched in the majors since 2012. He walked four and struck out four before leaving after pitching out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth. Donaldsons three-run homer off Doubront in the first was his first since June 6. It was a day where the host nation were asked to open the tournament and show us what they were made of: A day that the history books will show as a win for Brazil but ultimately the bigger story was much more than that. Observations - Croatia deserved a chance to show us what they were made of. For 70 minutes they were rightfully level with the World Cup favourites. It could have been an acid test for Niko Kovacs side to see what they could accomplish. Unfortunately, they were robbed of that opportunity. - It was a very unfortunate moment. Many eyes were on this game that rarely glance at a soccer match and when referee Yuichi Nishimura pointed to the spot in the 70th minute the world asked: "Why?" The Japanese official adjudged that Dejan Lovren had fouled Fred but the truth was he placed his hand on his shoulders and the Fluminense man went down. - With the world watching it was hard not to feel sadness. In the opening act of the games greatest carnival, one mans massive error in judgment had turned the spectacle into a farce. - It then became Neymars day. For a 22-year-old making his World Cup debut in Brazil, wearing the famous number 10 shirt, he showed a remarkable amount of poise. He had already scored one, gliding into space provided by Oscar, before unleashing a shot passed Stipe Pletikosa and then, at 1-1, he had the nations hopes placed on his right foot. - The referee handed the ball to Neymar at 69:30 and he placed it on the spot at 69:38. He then waited and waited and waited some more before placing the ball into the net 50 seconds after he put it down on the ground. I am not sure what was going through Neymars mind during those 50 seconds but he showed no sign of pressure in one of the most intense moments in recent Brazilian football history. - Croatia, led by the intelligence of Luka Modric, didnt go down easily and the game remained remarkably open until the final stages when Oscar finished it off. - We may never see another game at this World Cup that was this stretched. Brazil worked the flanks the entire game and two of Croatias most dangerous attacks (one on which was their goal) came from crosses wide in the opening 10 minutes. - Remarkably, less than 18 per cent of Brazils attacks came through the middle. Man of the Day Nominees: Neymar – a brace from Mr. Box Office in the biggest game of his young life put his face in newspapers acrross the globe. Spud Webb Hawks Jersey. . Oscar – The Chelsea playmaker had a brilliant game and showed just why Luiz Felipe Scolari cared little for his poor form at Chelsea in the last few months of the Premier League season. Luka Modric – Brazils two central midfielders had a very difficult time against the Real Madrid man, who was very intelligent with his passing and feasted on space when countering. Ivan Perisic – the Croatian winger had a very good game and it will be interesting to see if other players, asked to play against Brazils left side attacker, can be influential because Hulk - used a lot on the left - showed little appetite to track back. Yuichi Nishimura – the referee made a monumental mistake. Some on social media jumped to an assumption of match-fixing. Everyone needs to be very careful when drawing a line between incompetence and intentional error. The winner... Oscar was sensational. Many expected him to play centrally but he occupied a wide right position, tracking back and winning all four tackles he attempted. Brazil clearly had a plan to attack down the right but it was the 22-year-olds exceptional play certainly helped emphasize that method. Oscar has the potential to be the best player at this World Cup. He is so versatile, he can be three players in one. He is capable of coming deep and helping out the two central midfielders, can move wide and pull defenders with him to open up space centrally (which is what happened on Neymars first goal) and he can advance and run beyond all, pulling opposing back lines deeper. Brazil may need to change their style against a top team later in the tournament, potentially bringing in a Ramires or Fernandinho for Hulk, for example, and Scolari was given food for thought on day one for this because of the brilliance of Oscar out wide. Dani Alves was the biggest beneficiary of Oscars positioning. The Barcelona right back was culpable on the opening goal, pressing higher than anyone on Pletikosa as Croatia started an attack, but as the game settled down so did the 30-year-old. Between them they created a dynamic duo with overlaps and easily led the game in total pass completions between team-mates. What Comes Next? Day 2 sees Mexico vs Cameroon (Noon et/9am pt), Spain vs Netherlands (3pm et/Noon pt) and Chile vs Australia (6pm et/3pm pt). Catch all the game live on the TSN radio networks. Burning Question for Tomorrow Will a young Dutch team be brave enough to play a back three and counter a potentially vulnerable Spanish team? All stats and diagrams were powered by Opta ' ' '

BOSTON - Garrett Richards lay on the ground for several minutes, his left knee damaged and his season seemingly over. Cheap Fake Shoes Online . The right-handers injury while running to cover first base is a big loss that overshadowed the Los Angeles Angels seventh win in eight games. "Winning the game, obviously, its always important, but its secondary to what happened," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said after an 8-3 win over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night. "This is a tough night for us. Well just see where Garrett is. Obviously, its a significant injury." Richards, 13-4 with a 2.61 ERA, left after 1 2-3 innings with a patellar injury. He will be re-evaluated in Los Angeles on Thursday. "I had a chance to talk to him," Angels pitcher Jered Weaver said. "He just wanted to know what the story was. He wasnt feeling too much pain when he was on the table. When the doctor came in and told him that he might have done something to his patellar tendon and there might be surgery involved, he kind of lost it." The injury cast a cloud over a strong game by Josh Hamilton, who broke out of a 5-for-41 slump with two hits and three RBIs. Before Tuesdays game, he took extra batting practice. "Clearing my head and just remembering what it was like as a little kid, in high school, to go out and take BP and have fun," Hamilton said. "It sure helped." Richards left trailing 2-0. Hes obviously been on base this entire series, and he started to get some tightness," Boston manager John Farrell said. The Angels scored a run in the fourth on a double by Hamilton and an RBI single by Kendrick, and added five in the fifth. Clay Buchholz (5-8) took a 3-1 lead into the fifth but let the first six batters reach base. That sent Boston toward its fourth straight loss and the Angels to a 1 1-2-game lead in the AL West over the Oakland Athletics.. "Just missed location with a couple of pitches and they were able to put a big inning together," Buchholz said. The Angels loaded the bases on a single by Erick Aybar, a walk to Chris Iannetta and a single by Efren Navarro. A walk to Kole Calhoun drove in a run, and Los Angeles tied it when Mike Trouts popup to short right field dropped in. Richards fell while running to first for a return throw, but Aybar spun and threw instead to third where Xander Bogaerts, who had run past the base, dove back safely. There was no drama regarding whod be taken ahead of Mascherin. On Friday, the Sarnia Sting announced they would select American Jakob Chychrun, a six-foot-two, 195-pound defenceman with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, first overall. "Im really looking forward to playing for coach Trevor, (head coach Trevor Letowski) and my future teammates and working hard with them every day to hopefully one day build this team into a playoff contender," Chychrun said. The 16-year-old Chychrun had 16 goals and 27 assists in 29 games this season. He was also the youngest member of Ontarios team at the U17 World Challenge, where he had a goal and three assists in five games. Chychrun is the son of former NHL defenceman Jeff Chychrun, who won a Stanley Cup in 1992 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. "Were not only bringing into our organization an exceptional hockey player but an extremely mature and great person in general," said Rick Sinclair, the Stings head scout and player-personnel director. Andrew Benintendi Red Sox Jersey. But Chychrun was certainly in the minority as 16 of the 20 first-round picks were forwards. The Ottawa 67s, selecting third overall, continued that trend by taking left-winger Travis Barron, a six-foot-one, 175-pound forward who was teammate of Chychrun with the Jr. Canadiens. Last year, Ottawa had the top pick and used it to select centre Travis Konecny, who was named the leagues top rookie in 2013-14. Konecny, 17, led all OHL first-year players in scoring with 70 points (26 goals, 44 assists) in 63 games. Three Americans went in the first round. After Sarnia took Chychrun, the Niagara IceDogs selected forward Logan Brown at No. 6, The six-foot-four, 210-pound Brown, a native of Chesterfield, Mo., had 25 points (14 goals, 11 assists) in 15 games with the Indiana Ice this season. Then at No. 18, the London Knights took left-winger Max Jones, a six-foot-two, 190-pound forward from Rochester, Mich. Jones had 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) and 121 penalty minutes in 24 games with the Detroit Honeybaked under-18 squad this season. Both players come from hockey families. Browns father, Jeff, was a former NHL defenceman who holds the St Louis Blues team record for most points by a defenceman (78 in 92-93). Brad Jones played centre for the Winnipeg Jets, Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers from 1986-87 to 1991-92. ' ' '

PITTSBURGH -- Michael Wacha heard the chants. Blue Jays Jerseys China . Then again, when 40,000 people clad in black scream your name relentlessly for the better part of three hours, its kind of hard to miss. The goal was to rattle the St. Louis rookie, remind him that 22-year-old pitchers arent built to withstand the pressure of an elimination game. One problem. Wacha doesnt really do rattled. He doesnt do pressure, either. The louder PNC Park grew, the more unhittable Wacha became. "I kind of like it," Wacha said. "It kind of gives me adrenalin. I kind of use it in my favour." And the Pittsburgh Pirates -- not to mention anyone else he might face in the post-season -- "kind of" need to get used to it. Wacha took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning and the Cardinals showed off their October poise, edging the Pirates 2-1 Monday to force a winner-take-all Game 5 in the NL division series. St. Louis is 7-1 over the last three years with its season on the line. "I think you take high talent and high character people that are motivated and support each other, and they dont give up," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "Thats a tough combination." One the Pirates are still trying to master. Pedro Alvarez hit his third home run of the series, connecting with one out in the eighth for Pittsburghs only hit in Game 4. It wasnt enough for the Pirates to advance to the NL championship series for the first time in 21 years. "I guess thats why we play five," star centre-fielder Andrew McCutchen said. "Well be ready for the fifth one." The Pirates werent quite ready for the fourth one, not with the way Wacha was dealing. He walked two and struck out nine before giving way to the bullpen in the eighth. Matt Hollidays two-run homer off Charlie Morton in the sixth was all the offence required on a day the Cardinals tossed the first one-hitter in the clubs lengthy post-season history. Trevor Rosenthal worked around a two-out walk in the ninth, retiring McCutchen on a popup to shallow centre field for his first post-season save. "It was a good pitch for him," McCutchen said. "I wish it got a little more of the barrel. It would have been a great story." Instead, a taut series will head back to Busch Stadium. Game 5 will be Wednesday, with ace Adam Wainwright starting for the NL Central champion Cardinals and rookie Gerrit Cole going for the wild-card Pirates. Both pitchers won last week in the NLDS. The Cardinals finished with only three hits, and that was enough. Holliday got two of them, including his homer in the sixth after Morton walked big-hitting Carlos Beltran to start the inning. "You could go back and look at pitches over and over again and second guess yourself," Morton said. "I dont know where that pitch was. It was outer third somewhere, thigh-down and he went out and got it, hes strong." So was the 6-foot-6 kid on the one, the one barely a year removed from a standout college career at Texas A&M. Wacha didnt permit a runner until walking Russell Martin leading off the sixth. Wacha nearly no-hit the Washington Nationals in his last start on Sept. 24, surrendering only an infield single by Ryan Zimmerman with two outs in the ninth. Working so quickly the Pirates never had time to get settled, he breezed through Pittsburghs revamped lineup like he was in extended spring training. Mixing his fastball and changeup masterfully, Wacha overwhelmed the Pirates from the moment he stepped onto the mound. Alvarez got the fans at PNC Park roaring with his homer, and Wacha followed by walking Martin on four pitches. Carlos Martinez relieved and Gold Glove catcher Yadier Molina made a key play, throwing out pinch-runner Josh Harrison after a botched hit-and-run attempt. Martinez struck out Jose Tabata to end the eighth, and Rosenthal took over to begin the ninth. Neil Walker drew a two-out walk before McCutchen made the final out. "Thats what its all about," Rosenthal said. "Thats what you dream of, you dream of two outs in the bottom of the ninth, you know ... bases loaded, the best hitter up, and getting out of that spot." One the Cardinals rarely found themselves in on a day Wacha showed hes just a big a part of his teams present as he is its megawatt future. McCutchen came into the game hitting .538 in the post-season but looked at a 97 mph fastball for strike three in the first. Marlon Byrd, Pittsburghs most consistent player since being acquired from the Mets in late August, watched a full-count heater in the second that sent him walking back to the dugout in disbelief. It was a look repeated time and again by Byrd and the rest of his baffled teammates. Wacha struck out five of the first seven batters. "He went out and hit his spots and it seemed like everything we were hitting, we were just missing, just missing," McCutchen said. Martin remained Pittsburghs lone baserunner until the eighth. Wacha fell behind 3-1 and Alvarez hit a 93 mph fastball at the knees onto the concourse in right-centre. The jolt, however, faded when Molina nailed Harrison at second minutes later to set up a 24th -- and final -- meeting between two teams that have been shadowing each other all summer and into the fall. ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves agreed to eight-year contract with first baseman Freddie Freeman that is worth about $125 million on Tuesday. David Phelps Jersey . The deal was confirmed by the team on Tuesday night. Earlier in the day, outfielder Jason Heyward and the Braves agreed to a $13.3 million, two-year contract. Heyward and Freeman had filed for salary arbitration last month. The 24-year-old Freeman was an All-Star last year when he hit .319 with 23 homers and 109 RBIs. He matched his career high in home runs and set highs in batting average and RBIs which finishing fifth in NL MVP voting. He has topped 20 home runs in three straight seasons. "Freddie has established himself as one of the best young talents in the game," Braves general manager Frank Wren said. "We are excited to sign one of our own homegrown players to a contract that will keep him in a Braves uniform for the next eight seasons." Closer Craig Kimbrel is the Braves only player left in arbitration. Heyward, also 24, and Freeman are key members of the Braves core of young stars. Kimbrel, shortstop Andrelton Simmons, outfielder Justin Upton and starting pitchers Julio Teheran and Mike Minor are 26 or younger. Evan Gattis, 27, is replacing Brian McCann as the starting catcher. Heyward was happy to avoid arbitration. "In my head it basically says to me, lets go play some baseball," he said. Heyward is coming off an injury-filled season, and Wren said the relative lack of playing time complicated the arbitration process and helped make the two-year contract possible. Heyward hit .254 with 14 homers and 38 RBIs in a career-low 104 games during his fourth season with the Braves. He had an appendectomy on April 22 and broke his jaw on Aug. 21 when he was hit by a pitch from New York Mets left-hander Jon Niese. "Last year was such a tough year physically, through no fault of his own, with the appendectomy and getting hit in the face," Wren said. "So it also made it tough for both sides in an arbitration situation because its hard to pin a number when youre comparing to players who played a lot more." Heyward said he has moved past his injuries. "Physically, I feel great, being 24 years old and being blessed with some genetics to go along with that," he said. "Im growing up still in this game and Im looking forward to what my body is going to allow me to do going forward." Heywards deal calls for a $1 million signing bonus, payable in equal installments on May 1 and July 1, and salaries of $4.5 million this year and $7.8 million in 2015. The 2015 salary would escalate based on a points system for 2014 accomplishments, going up $500,000 for 20 points and then by $25,000 for each additional point. Heyward would earn 10 points each for 502 plate appearances, All-Star game selection, a Gold Glove award, a Silver Slugger award and finishing 11th-to-20th in MVP voting. He would receive 15 points for 6th-to-10th in MVP, 25 points for third-to-fifth and 35 points for first or second. Heyward enjoyed his best season in 2012, when he hit .269 and set career highs with 27 homers, 82 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. Heywards injuries did not prevent him from showcasing his versatility. A 2012 Gold Glove winner in right field, Heyward started 20 games in centre last year. He spent most of the season hitting second in the order before he was moved to the leadoff spot by manager Fredi Gonzalez on July 27. Over his next 22 games, Heyward hit .349 with five homers, 15 RBIs and 23 runs. Heyward is projected as Atlantas leadoff hitter. "He provides a great presence," Wren said. "The one thing we saw, especially after Fredi moved him to the leadoff spot, it allowed him to utilize his speed, it allowed him to utilize his ability to get on base even to a greater degree. "I think other teams felt pressure from the very first pitch of the game, because all of a sudden now youve got a 6-foot-6, 230-pound leadoff hitter that can do some damage from the get-go. That came back to us time and time again, that theres no let up. It starts right away." Heyward is eligible for free agency after the 2015 season. He had asked for a raise from $3.65 million to $5.5 million in arbitration and had been offered $5.2 million. Bryan Bickell also scored twice to help the Blackhawks win their fifth in a row after losing the first two games against St. Louis in the first round. Marian Hossa had a goal and two assists as the defending Stanley Cup champions made the most of two costly high-sticking penalties on Minnesota defenceman Jonas Brodin. Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is Sunday. The Wild showed no sign of any fatigue just two days after their dramatic 5-4 overtime win in Game 7 of their first-round series against Colorado. Playing in the second round of the post-season for the first time since 2003, Minnesota used third-period goals from Clayton Stoner and Kyle Brodziak to tie it at 2. Brodziaks third goal of playoffs on a slick pass from Erik Haula silenced the sellout crowd of 21,116 with 13:04 left, but Kane then electrified the United Center once again with his 33rd playoff goal. The flashy wing carried the puck into the Minnesota zone, hesitated as teammate Patrick Sharp skated behind him, and then split Brodziak and Brodin on his way to the net. He finished the play by roofing a backhand over goaltender Ilya Bryzgalovs left shoulder at 8:22. Kane then yelled "Showtime!" twice and pumped his right arm as the delirious crowd cheered wildly. But he was only getting started. The 2013 Conn Smythe Trophy winner picked up his fifth goal of the playoffs on a nice pass from Ben Smith, and Bickell added an empty-netter as Chicago pulled away. Darcy Kuemper took over for the Wild in net until he got hurt in the third period of the final game, and Bryzgalov made one save to help the Wild advance. Kuemper is day to day with an upper-body injury, but Wild coach Mike Yeo said before Game 1 against the Blackhawks that the goalie was not in Chicago, making it unlikely that hell be able to play Sunday. Bryzgalov got off to a slow start, and Chicago used the penalties on Brodin to build a 2-0 lead. Bickell tipped in Brent Seabrooks slap shot at 14:48 of the first, and then had some fancy footwork on the Blackhawks second goal in the second period. Nick Leddy made a nice pass to Brandon Saad streaking through the middle of the Minnesota zone. Saad then sent a backhand pass toward the left side of the net that Bickell stepped over, leaving it for Hossa to flip into the open side of the goal at 11:21. The rest of the period belonged to Minnesota, which outshot Chicago 17-3 in the second. Mikael Granlund had a shot go high off the left post, and Corey Crawford made nice glove saves on Wild captain Mikko Koivu and Zach Parise. Crawford finished with 30 saves after he made 35 stops in Chicagos 5-1 victory over St. Louis in Game 6 on Sunday, closing out the series for the Blackhawks. Ive not been raised up to do something like that and Ive let everyone down. Ive let the community down and Ive let Milton Keynes down and I have to take the criticism that comes with it. Its not something that should be laughed about. Its not an example I should be giving to kids either. Im meant to be a role model and I have to live by my actions now and I really am hurt by what Ive done. It was a silly mistake and I just have to take everything that comes with it.The manager and chairman are obviously very let down and Im being disciplined for it. They had faith in me not to do something like that so I feel like Ive let them down massively. But its not just them, Ive let down the whole team, my team-mates, everyone. Melbourne, Australia - Four-time champion Novak Djokovic, reigning titlist Stan Wawrinka and Japanese star Kei Nishikori highlighted Mondays fourth-round winners at the Australian Open. Nike Air Max 95 Hombre Rebajas . The world No. 1 Djokovic got past Luxembourg left-hander Gilles Muller 6-4, 7-5, 7-5 in Mondays nightcap at Laver Arena to reach his 23rd consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal. The seven-time Grand Slam champion and reigning Wimbledon titlist is seeking his fourth Aussie championship in five years, having captured three straight of his four Melbourne crowns from 2011-13. Up next for the great Djokovic, who has yet to drop a set through four matches here, will be eighth-seeded big-serving Canadian Milos Raonic, who is 0-4 lifetime against the Serb. Meanwhile, the fourth-seeded Swiss slugger Wawrinka pulled out a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8) victory over Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Garcia-Lopez won the first five points of the fourth-set tiebreak and had five chances to force a fifth set at Melbourne Park, but Wawrinka saved all five before moving on. Garcia-Lopez stunned Wawrinka in the first round at last years French Open. Wawrinkas quarterfinal opponent on Wednesday will be the fifth-seeded U.S. Open runner-up Nishikori, who handled ninth-seeded former French Open finalist David Ferrer of Spain 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 on Day 8 of the fortnight. Looking ahead to his clash with Wawrinka, Nishikori said, Its going to be a really tough match because I have seen him play on TV a couple of matches. Even today he was playing really good. He can hit balls forehand, backhand -- great backhand actually. He can hit from anywhere at the back. Its going to be a tough match. But obviously Im in the quarterfinals, so no easy matches coming up. Hopefully I can play another good match. For sure it gives me confidence that I beat him in the U.S. Open. Its not like I cant beat him. Its going to be a fun match for sure. Nishikori made history as he became the first Asian man to contest a Grand Slam final last year when he defeated three Top-10 players, including Wawrinka in five sets in the quarters, to reach the U.S. Open final. The aforementioned Raonic had to outlast 12th-seeded Spanish lefty Feliciano Lopez, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, to reach the round of eight. Lopez saved seven match points before succumbing to the big Canadian. Raonic became the first Canadian man in the Open Era to reach the Aussie Open quarters and is also the second Canadian man in history to reach three major quarterfinals, following in the footsteps of Robert Powell at Wimbledon in 1908, 10 and 12. Its great to be doing what Im doing and that it is making a difference, said Raonic. It is, I guess, part of some history, if you look really deep. But at the end of the day, at the same time, Im always pushing myself for what I want to achieve. Im always sort of looking in the mirror and saying, Thats who I have to compare myself to: to myself. The quarterfinals will commence Tuesday, as third-seeded former world No. 1 Rafael Nadal will take on seventh-seeded Tomas Berdych and sixth-seeded Andy Murray will battle heavy Aussie crowd favorite Nick Kyrgios. Nadal beat Berdych in the 2010 Wimbledon final and is 18-3 lifetime against the big Czech. The reigning French Open king Nadal is a 14-time Grand Slam champ, including an Aussie title in 2009. Hes also a two-time runner-up in Melbourne, including last year when he was stunned by Wawrinka in the final. Murray is a two-time major titlist whos lost in three Aussie Open finals. After all, the veteran catcher not only guided Whitley though a punchless Kansas City lineup, he also drove in three runs with a timely double in the third inning of what turned into a 4-2 victory over the Royals on Friday night. "He told me a game plan before the game and we were able to execute it," Whitley said. "Just follow whatever he has in store because that guy has everything. He does." Brian Roberts also drove in a run for the Yankees, who finally gave their young right-hander some support. Whitley (1-0) had allowed five earned runs in his first four starts, and left two of them with the lead, only for his team to saddle him with a series of no-decisions. Of course, McCann helped take care of that with his bases-loaded double. "Thats a huge hit," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Its a tough at-bat. He fouls off a lot of tough pitches, a change-up, a curveball, a real slow curveball, and he got a ball up in the zone and it turned into a double." Dellin Betances worked around a double by Alcides Escobar in the eighth, and David Robertson retired Salvador Perez with runners on first and second in the ninth to earn his 14th save. Jeremy Guthrie (2-6) wound up with the loss, once again getting very little support. Perez and Lorenzo Cain drove in the Royals runs. "I think I threw the ball all right except for the third inning when I gave up a couple of hits," Guthrie said. "I had McCann down to two strikes and couldnt finish him off. I threw a couple of pitches trying to finish him off and wasnt able to do that." Making their only scheduled visit to Kauffman Stadium, the Yankees won their second straight on the heels of a four-game losing streak. They also established some much-needed confidence as they began a 10-game trip that will take them through Seattle and Oakland. The Royaals figured they were catching a break during the four-game series by missing Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka, who pitched his way to a 2-1 win over the Athletics on Thursday. Nike Air Max Mujer Baratas. Whitley made them wish they were facing the Japanese star. Mixing his fastball with an effective slider and change-up, the former 15th-round draft pick allowed five hits while striking out three without a walk in the longest start of his career. Whitley had never lasted more than five innings in the big leagues. "Yeah, tonights a big night. Were all happy for him," McCann said. "Hes worked really hard to get here, to do this." The Yankees took a 1-0 lead on a single by Roberts in the second inning, and Kansas City promptly answered when Perez followed a double by Alex Gordon with his own RBI single. New York quickly regained the lead in the third. Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner led off with singles, and Guthrie grazed Mark Teixeira on the shoulder to load the bases with one out. Thats when McCann connected for his double to left, giving the Yankees what turned out to be an insurmountable 4-1 lead. Guthrie kept the Royals in the game, retiring his final nine hitters. His weak-hitting offence even got a run back in the fifth when Cain drove in Gordon with a double. Still, it was not enough for Guthrie to avoid his sixth straight losing decision and his 11th consecutive start without a win. In the last five, the veteran right-hander has received a total of three runs of support. "We just couldnt get that big hit to come through," the Royals Billy Butler said. "We were putting some good at-bats together with no results. Those days are kind of frustrating." NOTES: Yankees SS Derek Jeter got the night off. Asked whether he felt he needed it, he replied: "I never feel like I need a day." ... The Royals traded LHP Justin Marks to Oakland for cash considerations. He was designated for assignment Monday. ... New York RHP David Phelps and Royals LHP Danny Duffy are starting Saturday night. ' ' '

SYRACUSE, N. Boty Nmd Levne .Y. -- After falling behind by 10 points at the outset against No. 4 Syracuse, Indiana coach Tom Crean had his Hoosiers right where he wanted at halftime -- down by just two baskets. Then he went into the locker room and didnt like what he heard from his youthful Hoosiers -- silence. "Frankly, the halftime locker room for a team that had come on the road with the fourth-ranked team in the country and was going toe-to-toe with them, I read it right there," Crean said. "I dont know if its the inexperience. I dont know if its the anxiety. I dont know if there were too many guys that didnt believe they could win the game. I dont know if the guys were shocked that we were in the game, but that was as poor a second half performance spirit-wise ... that Ive been a part of in a long time." The Orange used a 12-0 spurt to break open a tie game and extended the surge to 25-4 behind their backcourt of Trevor Cooney and freshman Tyler Ennis, who combined for 38 points, nine assists and eight steals. After Indianas Noah Vonleh tied it at 33-all early in the second half, Syracuse began its run to take command and incite the crowd. Dajuan Coleman started it with a putback and Cooney followed with a steal and 3-pointer, then went 3 of 3 from the free throw line after being fouled on another 3-point attempt. C.J. Fairs driving layup with 13:18 left gave the Orange a 45-33 lead. Ennis had three steals during the spurt and the Orange forced the Hoosiers into a shot-clock violation as they could muster nothing offensively. "Ive never been part of a game where a team was as different in one half as they were in the other," Crean said. "The first half, after getting down 10-0, we started to play the game the way we practiced, the way we prepared. We wanted to get the ball inside. We had their front line in foul trouble. We were getting to the foul line. We were right where we needed to be. "We wanted to continue to build on what we were doing in the first half and we couldnt have been more opposite. Three of our first four shots were 3s. We got away from what was working. We let them get momentum." Indiana (6-2) had only lost, 59-58, to No. 12 Connecticut at Madison Square Garden in the championship game of the 2K Sports Classic Benefiting Wounded Warrior Project. Ennis hit a 3 and had a steal and layup, and Cooney followed with a 3 to boost the lead to 53-36 midway through the second half. Seconds later, Cooney was slammed into the stanchion on a fast break by Austin Etherington, drawing a flagrant foul on the play. "Because its Indiana, its kind of like a rivalry, and theyre a really good team," said Cooney, who scored 21 points. "We wanted to come out and prove to everyone that were a good team." Syracuse, fresh from winning the Maui Invitational, registered seven blocked shots, 10 steals and matched the nations top team on the glass with 29 rebounds with just a 12-11 deficit on the offensive glass. Indiana shot 15 of 41 (36.6 per cent) and was 6 of 13 from the field in the second half in getting outscored 36-23. "We finally got our offence going a little bit, made a couple of baskets, but our defence was really the difference for the first time this year," Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said. "Coming back from Hawaii, I thought the way everybody held their legs was pretty good. Our energy level was pretty good." So, too, was that of the crowd of 26,414, whose deafening roars in the second half rocked the Carrier Dome as the Orange assumed control. "We just get up for these games," Ennis said. Syracuse (8-0) has won 46 straight nonconference games at home. "The first three, four possessions. Im not a big believer in the first 5 minutes, but this one was," Crean said. "This is one of those games where the first few possessions were going to be absolutely crucial in the second half, and they were. And it totally went the other way. Im unbelievably disappointed in the lack of fight in the second half." Fair finished with 15 points but had to sit 5 minutes in the second half after picking up his fourth foul, one of four Syracuse players who finished the game with four. Vonleh had 17 points for the Hoosiers, 13 from the free throw line, and Yogi Ferrell added 12 points, only three in the second half -- a 3-pointer with 1:59 remaining. Indiana came in leading the nation averaging 50.3 rebounds a game and in rebound margin at plus-18. Indiana was fifth in field goal percentage defence (35.1) and the Orange shot 51.1 per cent (24 of 47). Adidas Nmd Pánská .C. United to a 4-1 victory over short-handed FC Dallas on Saturday night. He did them all one better. Greene was lifted in the ninth inning after giving up only his fifth hit, then watched as closer David Robertson got pinch-hitter Miguel Cabrera to ground into a double play in New Yorks 1-0 victory over the Tigers on Thursday. "Starting pitchers, you see one guy do good, you see the next guy do good, you start to get on a roll," Greene said. Robertson relieved after Ian Kinsler led off with a single, and he walked Victor Martinez. Robertson came back to induce Cabrera to bounce into a double play and got Don Kelly to softly line out to shortstop with a runner on third for his 31st save and New Yorks fifth win in six games. "I had confidence he could get the job done," said Greene, who sat calmly in the dugout for the final three outs. Stephen Drews RBI ground-rule double was the only extra-base hit in a game dominated by Greene and fellow 25-year-old starter Rick Porcello. The Yankees took two of three in games started by the Tigers Cy Young winners with spectacular efforts from their rotation. New Yorks rookie followed up by pitching the best game of them all against the AL Central leaders. Greene (3-1) walked three and struck out five while pitching into the ninth inning for the first time in his career. Greene didnt permit a runner past second until Ezequiel Carrera advanced to third on Kinslers single in the sixth. The right-hander got out of it with his second double play. "To be able to continue to pound the strike zone with quality pitches. Thats impressive," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of Greene. Overall, Yankees starters yielded three earned runs in 27 1-3 innings to the Tigers eight runs in 29 2-3 innings. Max Scherzer, David Price and Justin Verlander -- the last three AL Cy Young Award winners -- started the previous three games. "The pitching was outstanding, especially the staarting pitching," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. Basketbalové Boty Adidas. "Unfortunately, we didnt take advantage in three of the four starts." Porcello (13-6) gave up nine hits in seven innings and struck out five. The Yankees provided Greene all the support he needed with two outs in the fourth. Carlos Beltran and Chase Headley singled before Drews drive bounced just inside the line in left field and hopped into the stands.
