NEW YORK -- The Brooklyn Nets acquired guard Marcus Thornton from the Sacramento Kings for Jason Terry and Reggie Evans on Wednesday, removing two little-used veterans from their aging roster and hoping a younger one can rediscover his scoring touch. Terry came from Boston along with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce but has appeared in just 35 games after a knee injury, averaging 4.5 points on 36 per cent shooting. Evans was a favourite of fans but not coach Jason Kidd, who used him in just 30 of their 51 games. Evans made 56 starts last season and led the Nets with 11.1 rebounds per game, but lost his starting spot when the Nets acquired Garnett, and then fell behind rookie Mason Plumlee in Kidds rotation. Thornton averaged 21.3 points in 23 games with the Kings in 2010-11 after being acquired in a midseason trade with New Orleans. He then led the Kings with 18.7 points per game in 2011-12, but had fallen out of favour under defensive-minded coach Michael Malone, even getting benched at one point to make way for rookie Ben McLemore. "Marcus is a proven scorer in this league," Nets general manager Billy King said in a statement. "He is a young talent who will help us in the backcourt." Thornton, now 26 years old, is averaging just 8.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and one assist in 24 minutes per game this season. He has started 26 of 46 games and is shooting 38 per cent from the floor, including 31 per cent from 3-point range. Its the third move for the Kings since the season started as they rebuild under new owner Vivek Ranadive, general manager Pete DAlessandro and Malone. Sacramento sent Luc Mbah a Moute to Minnesota for Derrick Williams on Nov. 26 and acquired Rudy Gay in a seven-play deal with Toronto on Dec. 9. "Were an unfinished product," DAlessandro said before the Kings hosted Golden State on Wednesday night. "Were just going to continue to try to change and turn it over and try to figure it out until we can get it right. I think change is good when youve lost a lot. You have to change. You always have to change." One of the biggest reasons the Kings made the trade is to give more playing time to McLemore and fellow rookie Ray McCallum. McLemore, the seventh overall pick out of Kansas, made his 27th start Wednesday night. "We have to see these guys play, and not in practice but in NBA games to see what theyre capable of doing so we can make decisions coming in the off-season," Malone said. The Kings, under the former ownership of the Maloof family, signed Thornton to a four-year contract worth about $31 million just before the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season. Thornton is making $8.05 million this season and is due $8.575 million next season. Hell bring some youth to a Nets team that loaded up on veterans in an expensive attempt to make a run at a title this season. But they came out of the All-Star break with a 24-27 record, good for only seventh place in the Eastern Conference. They could still make another move before Thursdays 3 p.m. EST trade deadline, even though they were already slated to pay more than $180 million in salary and taxes this season. Hyun-jin Ryu Dodgers Jersey . The question all fans want to know heading into this light heavyweight affair is will Rua display his true potential. Working with UFC welterweight fighter Demian Maias team in Sao Paulo Brazil and having training partners such as fellow UFC stand outs Fabio Maldonado and Daniel Sarafian, the 32-year old feels very well prepared for Friday nights encounter. Kyle Garlick Dodgers Jersey . Parnell will be out much longer if it turns out he needs surgery. But first, he will try resting for two weeks before beginning a throwing program that could last up to a month, general manager Sandy Alderson said. https://www.cheapdodgersonline.com/545h-...ey-dodgers.html. Toronto dropped a 7-2 decision to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon, with only a pair of late runs preventing a second straight shutout loss. Josh Willingham belted a two-run homer in the first inning and Kendrys Morales hit a bases-clearing double in the seventh as the Twins took the rubber game of the three-game series. Manny Mota Dodgers Jersey . But Josh Bailey scored the shootout winner to lead the Islanders to a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens in a battle of the Eastern Conferences two worst teams. Austin Barnes Jersey . The team announced that it exercised the options on 15 players including goalkeepers Evan Bush, Maxime Crepeau and Troy Perkins, defenders Matteo Ferrari, Karl W.(SportsNetwork.com) - The winless Carolina Hurricanes will welcome Eric Staal back into the lineup on Tuesday night. It couldnt come any sooner. The Hurricanes try to avoid an eighth straight setback to begin the season on Tuesday night as they visit the Vancouver Canucks. Staal has missed the past five games with an upper-body injury, one of several players to miss time already this season. Staals brother Jordan has not played yet due to a broken right fibula, while a concussion sidelined Jeff Skinner for a few games earlier in the month. Eric Staal, who has proven rather durable over his career with just 20 games missed due to injury, figures to return right the first line between Jiri Tlusty and Alexander Semin. Hes a big, strong guy, Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said on his teams website. Now youre able to bump guys down in the lineup to where they should be as young guys, and it just gives you a little more depth at that position. Carolinas 0-5-2 start in the worst in franchise history and the club was bested 6-3 by the Edmonton Oilers last time out on Friday. Skinner, Riley Nash and Jay Harrison all scored, but the Oilers finished the game with three unanswered goals iin the third period.dddddddddddd Harrison also had an assist and Anton Khudobin made 23 saves. The effort was fine. I thought we competed and did good things, Peters said. We need a win here sooner rather than later. Cam Ward will start for Carolina tonight and is 2-3-1 with a 3.33 goals against average and .882 save percentage in six prior meetings with Vancouver. While the return of Staal should provide a boost, the Hurricanes will be looking to win in Vancouver for the first time since Oct. 15, 1999. They have lost six straight as the guest in this series since. The Canucks look to make it two victories in a row overall tonight as they bested the Washington Capitals 4-2 on Sunday. Henrik Sedin, Nick Bonino and Luca Sbisa all scored during a 1:47 span late in the second period. Ryan Miller made 20 saves and Radim Vrbata added an empty-net goal for the Canucks, who had dropped three of their last four games coming in. Chris Higgins added two assists. I thought we defended pretty well, Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins said. Miller came up with some big saves for sure. Miller is 13-9-4 with a 2.67 GAA and .914 save percentage lifetime versus Carolina. ' ' '
