Chavez, 36, played in 80 games with the Mariners last season and batted .276 with two homers and 23 RBI. He played all three outfield positions for the club. A 13-year veteran, Chavez is a career .270 hitter with 30 homers and 266 RBI over 1,151 games. He has played with Kansas City, Montreal/Washington, Philadelphia, Texas, Baltimore, Seattle and the New York Mets. Gutierrez did not appear in the majors last season due to medical reasons.
