A 13-year veteran, Chavez is a career .270 hitter with 30 homers and 266 RBI over 1,151 games. He has played with Kansas City, Montreal/Washington, Philadelphia, Texas, Baltimore, Seattle and the New York Mets. Gutierrez did not appear in the majors last season due to medical reasons.
