NEW YORK -- The Toronto Blue Jays are squandering opportunities in their series at Yankee Stadium.Every time the Blue Jays miss a chance to add runs, the New York Yankees exhale. After two dramatic games, the American League East rivals conclude their three-game series Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, when New York will be looking for complete a sweep. The Blue Jays (77-61) have dropped four of five and are tied with the Boston Red Sox for first place in the division. The Blue Jays have held at least a share of the lead every day since Aug. 16, and this is the fifth time they have been tied. The Yankees (72-65) have won three straight and nine of 13 to stay 3 1/2 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the second AL wild card. New York also is within 4 1/2 games of the division lead -- its smallest deficit since April 28.We have been playing good baseball, Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner said. Im sure teams in front of us have taken notice. This series has featured two close games with late-inning dramatics. On Monday, Toronto cut a four-run deficit in half on Edwin Encarnacions bases-loaded, seventh-inning single. However, Russell Martin lined out to end the inning, and the Yankees held on to win 5-3.On Tuesday, Kevin Pilars two-run double gave the Jays a short-lived, 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth. The Yankees responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, and Chase Headleys two-run homer gave New York a 7-4 lead. After Toronto scored twice in the ninth off Dellin Betances to climb within 7-6, and the bases were loaded when Blake Parker replaced the New York closer with two outs. Pillar struck out Justin Smoak was robbed of a go-ahead extra-base hit by Gardners leaping catch in front of the left field wall.A lot of lost opportunities along the way, no doubt about that, Toronto manager John Gibbons said.Betances is unlikely to be available Wednesday after pitching for the third consecutive game. Normally he would have been unavailable Tuesday, but September circumstances are different, especially in the situation the Yankees are in.As for the starting-pitching matchup for the series finale, Toronto right-hander Marcus Stroman (9-6, 4.58 ERA) gets the call, while the Yankees may employ Bryan Mitchell. Before Tuesdays game, the Yankees were leaning toward using the 25-year-old right-hander, but after the game, their starting pitcher was listed as TBA.Stroman will pitch nearly a year after returning from an ACL injury and throwing five innings in Torontos 10-7 victory Sept. 12, 2015, at New York. He allowed two runs and three hits in eight innings April 14 against the Yankees in Toronto.Stroman has pitched eight innings five times this season but has not done so since July 20 in Arizona. He has a 3.65 ERA in his past seven starts, and he allowed four runs and five hits in six innings Friday during an 8-3 loss at Tampa Bay.My stuff feels as sharp as its been all year, Stroman said. Its just frustrating not getting the results I want to get.Whoever starts for the Yankees will be taking the place of Chad Green, who is out for the season with an elbow injury.Mitchell would be making his season debut after missing most of the year due to a toe injury sustained in the final week of spring training.Mitchell made six rehab starts, including two with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre. In two starts for the Yankees top farm club, he threw a total of nine innings and allowed two runs (one earned) while striking out 14. He threw 91 pitches on Friday. Its crazy, Mitchell said. It feels weird to be coming back at this point, but its exciting. Im ready, Im excited. So are the Yankees, who are still in a playoff race a month after deciding to rebuild and jettison veterans following four months of maddening inconsistency following a 9-17 start.Bottom line is that we hadnt played up to our capability, general manager Brian Cashman said. When you dont do that and underperform, it can bite you in the (rear), so we had to dig ourselves out of a deep hole, but in the last month, weve given ourselves a chance. Hopefully we can take advantage of it. Our guys are having fun competing on a daily basis, and the hope is that we can keep that up. Tom Rathman Super Bowl Jersey . They had already blown a double-digit lead, fans were hitting the exits, and a long seven-game road trip waited at the end. Jason Verrett Super Bowl Jersey . The incident occurred at 19:56 of the second period of the Kings 4-2 road win over Edmonton on Sunday. Nolan punched Oilers forward Jesse Joensuu in the jaw in front of the Kings goal during a scrum. https://www.49ersrookiestore.com/49ers-Steve-Young-Jersey/ . Badenhop was 2-3 with a 3.47 ERA in 63 relief appearances for Milwaukee this season. He is 18-20 in his career with three saves and a 3. Y.A. Tittle Super Bowl Jersey . Self was acquired from the Buffalo Bandits in a trade for Alex Hill midway through last season, and made his debut in Rochester on March 16, 2013. DeForest Buckner Super Bowl Jersey .C. -- When North Carolina freshman Ryan Switzer reported to training camp in August he was a little miffed to learn he was third on the depth chart at punt returner. CLEVELAND -- LeVeon Bell scored on a 1-yard touchdown run -- long after time expired in the first half -- and the Pittsburgh Steelers recorded eight sacks and snapped a four-game losing streak with a 24-9 win Sunday over the winless Cleveland Browns. The Steelers (5-5) scored eight points with zeroes showing on the clock before halftime after they were awarded two extra plays because of defensive penalties against the Browns (0-11).Steelers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave recovered a fumble by QB Josh McCown for a TD with 3:36 left to seal Pittsburghs win. The Steelers came in with a league-low 13 sacks before unloading on the Browns.Bell finished with a season-high 146 yards rushing as the Steelers improved to 2/3 on the road and avoided an embarrassing loss to the NFLs worst team.Ben Roethlisberger improved to 20-2 in starts against Cleveland, still paying for not drafting the Ohio native in 2004.Making it worse, Roethlisbergers 10 wins in Cleveland match Derek Anderson for the most home wins by a Browns quarterback since 1999.Cody Kessler sustained a concussion -- his second this season -- late in the third quarter. Kessler was being dragged down when he was hit by Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who launched himself and was called for unnecessary roughness.Cleveland had 33 yards rushing in losing its 14th straight going back to last season. McCown replaced Kessler and threw a 14-yard TD pass to Gary Barnidge in the fourth quarter. On a blustery day, the Steelers turned to their running game and a defense that hasnt been up to Pittsburghs standards. Stephon Tuitt had 2 1/2 sacks and the Steelers spent much of the afternoon delivering hard hits.Pittsburgh dominated the first half, but only led 6-0 before the strange final moments.Starting at the Cleveland 41, Roethlisberger drove the Steelers to the Browns 3 with 8 seconds left. On second down, Roethlisbergers pass to Antonio Brown in the end zone was incomplete as time ran out. However, Browns defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun was called for holding, giving Pittsburgh another chance.Agaiin, Roethlisberger looked for Brown, who was dragged to the ground by star cornerback Joe Haden.dddddddddddd Pass interference was called and the Steelers took advantage of a second untimed play as Bell bowled over the goal line to make it 12-0.The Steelers, who went 0-for-4 on 2-point conversions a week ago in a loss to Dallas, connected this time as Roethlisberger threw to tight end David Johnson. The miscues were a microcosm of Clevelands miserable season. The Browns are young, and unfortunately theyre taking their lumps during a massive rebuild.Three teams in NFL history previously lost their first 11 games before winning: the 2000 Chargers (who finished 1-15), the 1984 Bills (who finished 2-14) and the 1975 Chargers (who finished 2-12).SUPER STEELERPittsburgh linebacker James Harrison is the clubs career sack leader.Harrison drilled Kessler in the third quarter to pass Jason Gildon (77) for the most sacks in the Steelers storied defensive history. Its likely Hall of Famers Joe Greene, Jack Lambert or Jack Ham could have more, but the NFL didnt recognize sacks as an official statistic until 1982.Harrison has 77 1/2 sacks.MOVING UPRoethlisberger passed Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton (3,686) for 12th place on the completions list.GRIFFIN GETTING CLOSEBrowns quarterback Robert Griffin III, who has been out since breaking a bone in his left shoulder in the season opener, did some conditioning drills, threw -- and even drop kicked a ball through the uprights -- before the game.Griffin has been cleared to practice this week and will undergo another medical exam to see if he can take contact. If he continues to progress, Griffin will likely start one of Clevelands final five games. The Browns have a bye on Dec. 4, which would give RG3 additional time to get ready.UP NEXTSteelers: At Colts on Thanksgiving night.Browns: Host Giants next Sunday.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
